A Flair for Chardonnay Book Review and Giveaway

NEW RELEASE....

When flamboyant senior sleuth Sadie Kramer learns the owner of Cioccolato, her favorite chocolate shop, is in trouble, she heads for the California wine country with a tote-bagged Yorkie and a slew of questions. The fourth generation Tremiato Winery promises answers, but not before a dead body turns up at the vintners’ scheduled Harvest Festival.

All four Tremiato siblings have possible motives, as well as a few peripheral acquaintances, but only one could be the guilty party. As Sadie juggles truffles, tips and turmoil, she’ll need to sort the grapes from the wrath in order to find the identity of the killer.

My thoughts:

This was such a fun book! Wine and chocolate rocks! Sadie is a sassy clothing store owner who travels everywhere with her tiny pup. A friend (and her favorite chocolatier) goes missing, and she goes to his family's vineyard in the hope of finding where Matteo went.

She arrives to find a murder and a family who fights and who all seems guilty. But no Matteo. So of course Sadie dives right in, trying to investigate a murder and help her friend. Somehow she gets the Tremiato family to trust her enough for her to investigate without drawing too much attention to herself.

I love the way Deborah Garner describes everything in this book, and I can't wait to read more in this series! This book literally kept me guessing until the very end.

AT Once Book Review and Giveaway

New Release....
Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #3
AT Once
“If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.”

FBI Agent Alex Troutt has no intentions of falling for anything. Apparently, neither do the bad guys, as the Boston area is once again targeted by extremists. Boston Strong of just a few years ago is now Boston on Edge. And this time, the targets are men of the cloth—priests.

At least that’s how it looks at first.

As investigators struggle to make sense of the bombings, Alex is thrown for a loop when the FBI assistant director asks her to investigate one of their own—a colleague and friend who is suspected of having ties to a known terrorist. Torn between her values of friendship and the oath she gave when she accepted her FBI credentials, Alex must now lead two investigations simultaneously.

The bombings don’t stop, and panic sets in as the carnage spreads beyond the realm of the original targets.

Bloody Sunday. The IRA. The movement toward peace. Wounds of decades ago have reopened, bleeding all over Boston. As she pieces together the puzzle, Alex begins to wonder just how innocent her colleague really is. It’s almost too much for her to fathom.

Just how far will someone go to make a stand?

My thoughts:

First off, I enjoyed this book. Like really enjoyed it. Alex Troutt is quickly becoming one of my favorite fictional characters. I love how she's constantly having to balance her family life and her job, even though her job is continually threatening to take over.

She still has things she doesn't remember, which definitely ties in well with the previous books, and she's learning how to parent her kids in their difficult teen years.

This time around someone is placing bombs all over Boston. Can she find out who is responsible before more lives are lost? And can she do it all while doing a side undercover job investigating someone she knows?

This book can definitely be read as a standalone, but you're going to want to go back and read the rest (or save yourself the time and start with book 1!)

AT Bay (An Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #1)
Alexandra Giordano never knew she had it so good. Until it was all gone in an instant.

As she begins her daunting quest to uncover the black spots on her memory, what she finds isn’t sweet or charming or even pleasant. And that’s when she begins to question everything, including herself.

Her work as a Special Agent for the FBI is only a distraction, serving as a mental metronome…anything to crank the gears of her feeble mind.

And then it happens—a bizarre, ritualistic murder. She loses herself in her work, fully immersed in the investigation. Unable to recall even her own kids, she’s somehow able to formulate coherent theories on what type of person could pull off such a sickening act.

As her mind slowly plugs a few memory gaps, her emotions are scrambled by the reality of her worlds colliding. And the resulting explosion tears her in two.

Can she pick up all the incendiary fragments to solve the twisted crime while she clings to some semblance of sanity?

One woman can only keep so much…AT Bay.

AT Large (An Alex Troutt Thriller, Book #2)
The pursuit of the truth. The hunt for a life.

For the first time in months, FBI Special Agent Alex Troutt feels almost normal, hanging out at a local bar with friends after work. Not long into the evening she stumbles over one of the most disturbing images she has ever seen.

And that’s only the beginning.

A body is found in Lowell, the human damage, once again, inconceivable. Hours later, another strike. Pushing heartache aside, Alex immerses herself in the investigation. But with every new clue comes a new twist.

With the killing spree drawing the attention of every intelligence and law enforcement agency in a five-state radius, Alex is forced to partner with an egomaniac from the CIA. Yet, even with limitless resources, every step forward proves to be a step too late, the kill list seemingly endless.

Once the killer makes it personal, Alex is left with no other option—she must confront the person who destroyed her life to try to cease the vicious murders. And when she finally learns the killer’s end game, every second counts if she has any hope of stopping the brutal killings.

The hunt will end. Will Alex?

River of Love Book Review and Giveaway

New Release........
Book #3 The Bradens of Peaceful Harbor

Fall in love with Sam Braden in the Bradens of Peaceful Harbor. Hot, sexy, & wickedly naughty second cousins to the Weston, Colorado Bradens we know and love.

River rafting and adventure company owner Sam Braden works hard and plays harder. He’s fast, focused, and determined—and never at a loss for a willing woman to share his time with. The trouble is, the only woman he wants refuses him at every turn.

Physician assistant Faith Hayes escaped her painful past and built a safe, happy life in Peaceful Harbor. She’s also put what she’s learned to good use helping others by founding Women Against Cheaters, an online support group. When her boss’s sinfully sexy brother sets his sights on sweet Faith, she knows the self-professed player is everything she shouldn’t want, and she’s determined to resist him.

Sam pulls out all the stops, proving to Faith that his past doesn’t have to define his future. As she lets down her guard and begins to trust Sam, intense conversations turn to intimate pleasures. But when real life steps in and their pasts collide, it’s Faith who’s left with something to prove.

RIVER OF LOVE is part of the Love in Bloom series. While this can be read as a stand-alone novel, for even more reading enjoyment you may want to read the entire Love in Bloom series in series order.

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My thoughts:

Sam is a man of the river, he works and plays on it. He also meets women and plays, a lot! Since he got his heart hurt as a young man he's careful to play with lots of women, but never let them get near his heart.

Faith works for his brother, and started Women Against Cheaters after getting her heart and hopes smashed by a unfaithful man. She feels the heat between her and Sam, but she can't let him near her because of her convictions.

Sam literally can't stop thinking about Faith, even though it goes against every one of his beliefs, even though his brother specifically told him Faith was off limits.

Can these two find a balance on the rocky river of life? I love how Faith and Sam complement each other, even though they seem to be exact opposites.

This book can be read as a stand alone novel, but I definitely recommend catching up on the rest of the books in the series!

The Immigrant Wife Book Review and Giveaway

As a girl on the brink of womanhood in 1960s India, Shanti Bamzai has big dreams. Rather than enter into an arranged marriage like her sister, Shanti embarks on a journey into the unknown, leaving her family home behind for an education and a chance to chart her own destiny. While India experiences an upheaval of cultural and societal changes as old-world traditions collide with the modern global era, Shanti navigates college, a marriage of her own choosing, and motherhood, fighting a constant battle between the pressures of traditional expectations and her own burning desire to be an artist and an independent woman. A move to America presents exciting new opportunities, but Shanti is disappointed to find herself still hemmed in by the restrictions of her Indian upbringing. As her children become adults and her marriage becomes a shell of what it once was, Shanti must find the courage to step out of her husband’s shadow and into the life she’s always dreamed of.

My thoughts:

I honestly didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book, but Dr. Wangu hooked me on page two with this description: "...her morning was spoiled like a plate of steaming white rice upon which a housefly sat." I knew at that point that I was going to enjoy this book!

All Shanti wants to do is go to college to study art, but her very traditional father has found her a husband and is adamant that she marries. She manages to get permission to go to college, at the expense of her relationship with her father. In college she falls in love and gets married, and even though she is completely against becoming a "typical" Indian wife, she quite rapidly found her footing as a wife and mother.

However, in the process of growing her family and moving to America, Shanti has lost her time and energy to paint. As her children grow and her marriage begins to disintegrate Shanti has to decide whether she's going to live for herself or continue to live for her husband and family.

This book is an amazing read. It follows Shanti's life from childhood until her children are grown, and has a tremendous amount of Indian culture woven through the story. I learned so much about religion, culture and daily way of life. I adored this book and and wish I could've read more! Dr. Wangu wrote an exceptional first novel!

Book available from...
"Beautiful and lush, The Immigrant Wife takes the reader on one woman's touching, turmeric-drenched journey from naive but determined art student in India to longing-filled American wife and mother. The author Madhu B. Wangu has written a maharaja’s banquet for the senses." - (RITA Award Winning Author) Gwyn Cready

"A winner. The Immigrant Wife: A Spiritual Journey is beautifully written. The story weaves many small strands into an intriguing tapestry, much like the paintings of our heroine, Shanti. It paints two pictures one of the beautiful valley of Kashmir and the beautiful hills of Western Pennsylvania. Shanti’s quiet determination to stay true to herself, her art, and her family is inspirational. I loved it! - Professor Laurence Glasco (University of Pittsburgh)

"In her debut novel, Madhu Bazaz Wangu, conjures a mysterious time and place. The protagonist, Shanti, begins her life as an idealistic but naive girl from the valley of Kashmir. As the story unfolds in America, she learns to heed her desires and shape her life, no longer rolling along like a stone turned in the tide. Wangu creates rich, dynamic images of India, comparable to her watercolors, evoking every sense. The indigenous sights, sounds, and smells are so vivid that I swear I could find my way to Shanti’s home. Wangu's style is gentle and quiet like the protagonist, and deeply powerful. This tale of love and nurturing, loss and growth, and transformation will stay with readers long after they finish the novel."  - Kathleen Shoop (IPPY Award Winner of The Last Letter)

Laguna Sights Book Review and Giveaway

New Release....
Once you're a star, can you trust other people’s intentions?

Scott Cassidy has lived a blessed life. Growing up in Laguna Beach with a loving family, he was discovered in high school when he appeared on the popular reality TV show, Laguna Nights. Now cast as a doctor on the number one soap opera, his star keeps rising. Finally free from his long-term girlfriend, Scott isn’t looking for love, but when a popular dating app matches him with Jamie Kane, he can’t deny the sparks. But is she really everything she seems?

Jamie Kane isn’t lucky in love or life. Her childhood was tumultuous with a single mom who moved to Hollywood for fame but ended up waiting tables in Malibu. Certainly not one of the spoiled kids she went to high school and college with, Jamie has worked hard to achieve her dreams of being an actress, even as she begins to realize it’s not her calling. Jamie believes Scott may be the answer to everything unless a past mistake makes him doubt their future together.

Is the price of fame the chance at true love?

***Laguna Sights can be read and enjoyed as a stand alone read. And if you enjoy Laura and Paul's story, please consider reading the rest of the Laguna Beach series.

My thoughts:

Laguna Sights continues the Laguna Beach series, which follows a group of prior teen reality stars in adulthood. My biggest problem with the series is that because of the first book in the series I wound up disliking so many of the other characters. So each of the later books is an uphill battle for me to enjoy the story.

That being said, I really enjoyed reading about Scott and Jamie. Scott is a former reality tv star who is working on a hot soap opera and running a travel agency. Jamie is a struggling actress who has had a lifetime of heartache.

When they're matched up on Tinder Jamie suddenly becomes Scott's mystery woman, even though they only had one date. Scott is worried that women are only after him for his fame, and Jamie is dealing with a bad past.

Can they make a relationship work? Or will fame destroy their budding relationship before it has a chance to grow?

This book can be read as a standalone novel, but I definitely recommend reading the previous books in the series!

She never imagined she'd return to the place where she became famous on the hit reality TV show Laguna Nights, and the place where she was humiliated on national television. Fortunately, the past had stayed tucked away until her old high school boyfriend appeared in the lobby.

Josh Welsh was a superstar by age eighteen, the bad boy break-out star of Laguna Nights. Since then, his star had lost its shine and he barely was holding onto his Hollywood status. When he was asked to host a new reality travel show, he jumped at the chance. The only problem was the first episode was shooting in Laguna Beach. Of all the reasons Josh didn't want to return home, he hadn't even imagined the worst scenario: running into Madison "Holly" Alcott.

Josh's connection to Madison was still as strong as her anger at his betrayal. When the new reality series forces them together, they must face Laguna Nights past and present, and navigate a journey where nothing is as it seems.

Laura decides to go home to Laguna Beach for the weekend to attend a baby shower for her high school friend. That decision – and a car accident – will lead her to a new future, if she’s ready to take a chance at love.

Paul Dorn’s former life in New York City is far behind him and he’s working in a popular Laguna Beach surf shop when fate brings the most beautiful woman he’s ever met into his life. The attraction is instant and he has an overwhelming desire to protect her. While Paul’s retail sales career is a short-term job for market research purposes, his focus on Laura is long-term.

Claimed by Love Book Review and Giveaway

 photo seized by love badge_zpsogf4g5b8.png

NEW RELEASE........
Claimed by Love, Book #2 The Ryders

Family law attorney Gabriella Liakos has one true love, Elpitha Island, where she grew up and hopes someday to return. But Elpitha is in financial ruins, and Gabriella will do anything to keep it from falling into the wrong hands.

Duke Ryder is a savvy real estate investor set on making Elpitha into an exclusive resort. Unlike other investors, he's not scared of purchasing a property where one family has roots so deep they practically reach the ocean floor...until he meets his beautiful, stubborn, and enticing tour host―the daughter of the owner of most of the island.

Gabriella sets out to dissuade Duke from purchasing Elpitha, but Duke has other ideas. He wants Gabriella and the island. Duke's powerful seduction draws Gabriella in, but can a savvy investor who's used to glamour and glitz, and a woman interested in preserving the culture she adores find a happily ever after together?

*** THE RYDERS are the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series by New York Times & USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Melissa Foster. This 5-book hot contemporary romance series features alpha male heroes and sexy, empowered women. They’re flawed, funny, passionate, and relatable to readers who enjoy new adult romance, contemporary romance, and women’s fiction. While each book may be read as a standalone, you might enjoy reading the entire Love in Bloom series (The Snow Sisters, The Bradens, The Remingtons, & Seaside Summers)

**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My thoughts:

Gabriella's family has owned most of Elpitha Island for generations, and their enormous extended family is a unique combination of Southern and Greek. However, their island is slowly falling apart. With a lack of tourism income, houses are falling apart and families are sending their youth off the island to college and to have a better life.

Gabriella is a family law lawyer, and her grandfather has asked her to come back to Elpitha to show around an investor who is coming to purchase part of the island to develop it. Since Gabriella loves the island and doesn't want to see it turned into a huge casino complex, she's ready to fight the development at all costs.

When Duke Ryder shows up, he is definitely not what she was expecting. However, no matter how interested they are in each other, the potential development will always be between them. Can they find love and agree about the future of the island? Or will they let a few square miles of land come between the love of a lifetime?

I loved this story, the romance (and the steamy scenes), but I missed seeing many of my favorite characters from the other Love in Bloom books. Since this story was set on an island and so devoted to Gabriella and Duke we didn't hear many updates about previous characters in Mrs. Foster's books. This book is part of a series but can definitely be read as a stand alone book.

Eighty and Out Book Review and Giveaway

Traumatized by visits to the nursing home to see their elderly aunt, Louise and her sister Jeannie made a youthful pact to not live past age eighty. Was it a silly childhood idea, or were they wise beyond their years? Most importantly, will they go through with it when the time comes?

Eighty and Out Editorial Review: “An emotionally-charged women’s fiction novel about the bond between sisters, friendship, and fate, Eighty and Out will have you deliberating your destiny.” ~ Bestselling author Deborah Brown

My thoughts:

To be quite honest, the description of this book does not do it justice. I initially started reading this story because I like Kim Cano's stories, although the idea of the "Eighty and Out" pact initially turned me off. Why would I want to read a story about some kids who don't want to get old?

However, this is SO much more than a pact about getting old! This is the story of a family, from childhood through their elder years. You see integration through the eyes of a child, women struggling to get into college in an era when it rarely happened, riots through the eyes of a woman trapped in the wrong side of town, and births, life, and death.

You will fall in love with Louise, Jeannie, their family and their friends. You will cheer for them, cry for them and laugh with them.

The only negative for me is that the ending was too abrupt. Everything else was described in such detail, but we came to the conclusion of the book about 50 pages before I was ready! I would've loved to hear the story of the end of the book in detail, instead of in an epilogue.
