A Pet for Christmas Book Review and Giveaway

NEW RELEASE...

Dedication
To those who still suffer the wounds of war.

 >>><<<

Kelly Kennedy thought her life was finally on track. Engaged to the man of her dreams and with a baby on the way, she reassures her five-year-old daughter, Bree, that the father she picked for Christmas still loves her.

Unfortunately, war veteran Tyler Manning has been away most of the year. Recovering from PTSD isn’t easy. Rather than worry Kelly, Tyler spends his time traveling to Afghanistan to work at a children's charity he founded.

Kelly decides to distract Bree with promises of a pet for Christmas. When Tyler is taken hostage by terrorists, she finds it hard to convince Bree that they will truly be a family in time for Christmas.

A Pet for Christmas is a sequel A Father for Christmas. While it can be read as a standalone, you'll get more of the relationship aspect between Kelly, Tyler, and Bree by reading A Father for Christmas first.

My thoughts:

A Pet for Christmas is an incredibly sweet, heart-wrenching and terrifying story. Bree finally has what she asked for last year, a Daddy! And her mom Kelly has another baby on the way. But Bree has been missing her new Daddy since he went back to Afghanistan to work with displaced children. So she's been asking her mom for a pet... repeatedly!

Kelly is late in her second pregnancy, trying to keep things together while Tyler is gone, worried for him and wondering whether their relationship can really last. When the compound Tyler is in is bombed and he goes missing, Kelly is terrified for his safety. As we follow Tyler's imprisonment by terrorists it's unclear whether he'll ever see Kelly and Bree (or his unborn baby) again.

Can Kelly keep her children safe? Will Tyler make it home? And will Bree find a pet for Christmas?

Available to buy from...

"Heartwarming story of hope and second chances.” - Ruth Davis on Book 1, A Father for Christmas

"Absolutely breathtaking love story." - Amber McCallister on Book 1, A Father for Christmas

Dedication

To all the veterans who gave so much.

 >>><<<

Single mother Kelly Kennedy can't afford lavish gifts for her four-year-old daughter, Bree. Homeless veteran Tyler Manning doesn't believe he deserves a Merry Christmas.

When Bree asks Santa for a father and picks Tyler, both Tyler and Kelly vow to keep Bree from being hurt while fighting their feelings for each other.

Tyler struggles with frightening flashbacks that scare Kelly. Meanwhile, Kelly's criminal past threatens her chance for happiness. Tyler and Kelly must believe in the power of love to give Bree her best Christmas ever.

My thoughts:

Kelly used to have it all, a beautiful daughter that she loved, a high-powered job that provided everything her family could want, and a loving mother. Then her job crashed around her, and Kelly is struggling to provide for her daughter. She splurges to let her daughter visit with a mall Santa, and Bree asks for a gift that Kelly never expected... Bree wants a Daddy for Christmas! Bree has finally noticed that most other kids have a Dad, and she's decided that Santa can bring her one for Christmas.

Tyler Manning is a homeless veteran who suffers from serious PTSD flashbacks. He feels guilty for what he did in the name of war, and he's crushing himself holding the weight of the world on his shoulders so that he can never be happy. When Bree finds Tyler sitting under the Christmas tree in the mall, she decides that Tyler is the Daddy that Santa sent. Suddenly Kelly has a daughter who not only wants a Daddy, but she wants a homeless man with violent flashbacks as her Daddy.

This comes across as a light holiday read, but because of the heavy topics of homeless vets and PTSD, it actually is a surprisingly deep, heartfelt story.

When Dreams Touch Book Review and Giveaway

when dreams touch badge

Caught between the 1980’s HIV/AIDS global pandemic and the devastating January 2010 earthquake in Haiti, three women strive to realize their dreams.

Pregnant and uneducated, 16-year-old Adelaide trades her dream of escaping the grinding poverty of her rural village for hopes of a better life for her unborn child. Kate, a young American physician, often finds her roles as mother and wife to be in conflict with her childhood dream to practice medicine in a third-world country. Giselle, a university-educated artist, lives in Port-au-Prince. While she sympathizes with the plight of her fellow Haitians, she envisions her and her family’s future as a comfortable life in the United States.

When the violent 1991 coup d’état erupts in Haiti, these three women’s lives intersect and are forever changed. Despite different cultures and life circumstances, the women share a vision of a better future for their children and the troubled country of Haiti. Their personal stories of adversity, tragedy and triumph are embedded in the complex social, political and cultural climate that evolves when international assistance programs influence individuals and communities in the developing world. Often in startling contrast, the women portrayed in When Dreams Touch are united through mutual understanding and respect. With courage and perseverance, they confront the broader injustices of the world they live in and create a legacy of enduring hope.

"When Dreams Touch" was awarded: the 2015 Eric Hoffer First Horizon Award for superior work by a debut author, the 2015 Eric Hoffer Award for e-book fiction, the 2015 National Indie Excellence Award for regional fiction and the 2015 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Silver Award for historical fiction. The book was also selected as a Historical Finalist, as a First Novel Finalist, and as a General Fiction Finalist in the 2015 IAN Book of the Year Awards and featured in The US Review.

My thoughts:

I came into this story with a little trepidation about what I was going to read. It's historical fiction that reads like non-fiction, following the lives of 3 women from different backgrounds and their lives inside and outside of Haiti. Once I got into the story I had a hard time putting it down, wanting to know more of the stories of these amazing women!

The people of Haiti have been slammed with continuous struggles, from extreme poverty to AIDS and cervical cancer epidemics, and devastating hurricanes and earthquakes. Yet the women of rural Haiti continue to plant, sell their wares and try to educate their children. Everyone is trying to make a better life for themselves and their children.

This book will make you smile, it'll make you cry, and it will definitely open your eyes to how different the world is outside your safe bubble. Not only that, you'll get ideas of how you can help, both in Haiti and all over the world.

Will you take the chance and see what you can learn about the tiny world we live in?

All proceeds from sales of When Dreams Touch go to health and education programs in Haiti.

Available to buy from....

"Hanrahan, a physician who has a decade of firsthand experience living and working in Haiti and other developing countries, brings a realism to her novel that only one who has seen it for themselves can hope to portray." RECOMMENDED by the US Review

"The author's voice is smooth and professional and she has a way with words that will pull you in and entertain you. In fact, I found it really hard to part with. I'm very impressed with the skill here.... All in all a wonderful read that I highly recommend." - 22nd Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards

Rosemary started volunteering and working in developing countries, including Nepal, Botswana and Haiti, in 2001. VCS provides a continuum of senior services in the Western Pennsylvania region.

In October, Rosemary will travel to Haiti, as a volunteer, with PA PS Team International, H3 Missions and Rotary international District 5330 to conduct cervical cancer screening and treatment for over 2000 Haitian women. Fifteen local Haitian doctors and nurses will also be trained so they can continue this critical screening effort.

As depicted with Adelaide’s story in When Dreams Touch, Haiti has one of the highest cervical cancer rates in the world and treatment is extremely limited. The average Haitian woman who dies of cervical cancer leaves behind five and eight orphaned children.

Your donation of $20 U.S. will cover the cost of a PAP smear and, if necessary, life-saving treatment for cervical cancer for one woman in Haiti.

Booker No Mas Book Review and Giveaway

New Release....
No more deception.

Brought to the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic on the premise that he could finally close the chapter on the darkest moment of his life—and rid the world of a cold-blooded killer—Booker T. Adams instantly finds a far different scene. Set against the backdrop of a city consumed by the rising fear of terrorism and a brutal drug lord, a woman, seemingly with two lives and even two faces, uses her hypnotic charm to get what she wants, sending Booker on a mission to rescue a teenage boy held hostage.

No more lies.

Befriended by a fired cop and a homeless kid with nothing to live for, Booker struggles to understand fact versus fiction, while staving off wild bores, snakes, terrorist traps, and a past that has haunted him for almost thirty years. Is he dealing with people believing their own hypocrisy, or have they simply perfected the art of betrayal and treachery?

No more killing.

The all-powerful rule with brute force, killing women and children like they’re swatting flies. It’s a savagery that Booker can’t comprehend, let alone defeat. With the smell of death stuffed down his throat, the man with everything to lose puts everything on the line—because he can stand…

No more.

My thoughts:

John W. Mefford has done it again! I was leery at first when I picked up this book, since Booker wasn't on his home turf, with all of his beloved friends, family, and coworkers. So I wasn't sure that I would enjoy a book that was only about Booker. Leave it to Booker to find a couple of great sidekicks who could help him find his way around the most dangerous parts of the Dominican Republic.

Booker travels miles from home following a tip that a crazy killer (who happens to be his ex-girlfriend) was in the Dominican Republic. As soon as he lands he finds out that he's not in the US anymore and everyone is trying to take advantage of him. What he discovers while there has the potential to change Booker to his very core, and will keep you guessing until the very last page.

All in all, I loved this book. It can be read as a stand alone book, but I definitely recommend picking up the whole series so that you have more of the back story.

Seaside Nights Book Review and Giveaway

NEW RELEASE!  SEASIDE SUMMERS BOOK #5
Voted Beck Valley Books Reviewers Favorite Mini Series from the Love in Bloom Series

SEASIDE SUMMERS joins the LOVE IN BLOOM series, featuring a group of fun, sexy, and emotional friends who gather each summer at their Cape Cod cottages. They're funny, flawed, and will have you begging to enter their circle of friends. You met them in READ, WRITE, LOVE, (The Remingtons, Book 5), follow these friends on their search for forever love in the Seaside Summers series.

SEASIDE NIGHTS
Fall in love with Sky Lacroux and Sawyer Bass in Seaside Nights, the fifth book in the Seaside Summers series!

Sky Lacroux has finally realized her dream and opened her own tattoo shop in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She’s happy as can be, preparing the shop for its grand opening and renting a cottage in the Seaside community while renovations to her new apartment are being completed. The only thing missing is the one thing she longs for, and has no control over—love.

Sawyer Bass, a professional boxer, plays his guitar at a local bar to escape the painful reality of his father’s deteriorating health and a recent health warning of his own. But when he spots a stunning brunette across the room, escaping reality goes out the window, and the beautiful woman becomes the focus of his next song—and maybe even the rest of his life.

When Sawyer walks into Sky’s tattoo shop and sees the woman from the bar—Sky—the chemistry between them is instant. Sawyer is everything Sky could ever hope for in a man. He’s honest, loving, sensitive, and potently virile—but boxing goes against everything Sky believes in. The closer they become, the more she realizes that her alpha boxer is waging his own emotional battle—only the battle she thinks he’s waging isn’t the one that threatens to tear them apart.

SEASIDE SUMMERS are the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series
**CONTENT WARNING: Due to mature content, recommended for readers aged 18+**

My thoughts:

Sky Lacroux has been through a lot in her life, with the death of her mother and her father's alcoholism. Sky is finally getting her feet under her and her life on track. She's purchased her own tattoo parlor and is staying at one the Seaside cottages until the renovations on her apartment are complete.

Sky is a very sensitive soul, who has been VERY protected by her brothers through her life. So when she meets a soulful singer and songwriter, Sawyer Bass seems like the perfect man for Sky. Until she finds out he's a professional boxer. Sky can't believe that her cat would kill a mouse, let alone one human fighting another. Is Sawyer's boxing a deal-breaker?

I love getting updates on the Seaside gang (and their pregnancies!) and I love the updates to the pranks between Bella and Theresa. The group at Seaside is such an amazing group of friends, and the addition of their loved ones makes their stories so much better!

While I love all of Melissa Foster's books, this story is one of my favorites. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Laguna Nights Book Review and Giveaway

New Release....
Madison Alcott was back in her hometown, caring for her sick mom and working long hours at the best resort in Laguna Beach. She never imagined she'd return to the place where she became famous on the hit reality TV show Laguna Nights, and the place where she was humiliated on national television. Fortunately, the past had stayed tucked away until her old high school boyfriend appeared in the lobby.

Josh Welsh was a superstar by age eighteen, the bad boy break-out star of Laguna Nights. Since then, his star had lost its shine and he barely was holding onto his Hollywood status. When he was asked to host a new reality travel show, he jumped at the chance. The only problem was the first episode was shooting in Laguna Beach. Of all the reasons Josh didn't want to return home, he hadn't even imagined the worst scenario: running into Madison "Holly" Alcott.

Josh's connection to Madison was still as strong as her anger at his betrayal. When the new reality series forces them together, they must face Laguna Nights past and present, and navigate a journey where nothing is as it seems.

My thoughts:

Madison and Josh had a magical love story with a horrible ending in high school, with the whole world (at least those that watch reality TV) watching. Since then, Madison has traveled the world and moved back to her hometown to take care of her sick mother. Josh has struggled in Hollywood and has become a washed up actor. So when Josh has a chance to star in a new travel TV show, he jumps at the chance, even though it takes him back to Laguna Beach.

Little did he know that he would run into Madison, and their past would be pushed front and center again, with a new reality TV show. Can Madison get over her feelings of betrayal and see Josh as the boy he was? Do these two former lovers have a chance at happiness?

I love Ms. Rouda's storytelling, and the reality TV twist is a very fun one. It definitely made me happy to never be on a reality TV show! I also loved meeting a lot of the peripheral characters, and I'm looking forward to reading those stories in the future.

Booker: Blood Ring Book Review and Giveaway

New Release....

Her dimpled smile and alluring gaze wouldn’t work this time. Neither would her charm, curves, and effervescent youth--qualities that had always kept her moving in all the right circles. The high life.

Not this time. This time was terrifyingly different.

Shackled by her own regrets and the hell delivered by her captors, she struggles to find a sliver of hope where there is none. Time ticks . . .

Having made a name for himself in just a few short months as a Dallas PI, Booker T. Adams yanks the brake on everything once the sister of his business partner and friend, Alisa Lopes, goes missing.

Meanwhile, a family grieves for the loss of their child, another teen who thought she could have it all. Hired to find her killer, Booker treads through a layer of slime, trying to uncover who could be preying on a generation blinded by the hyper-active pursuit of fame and fortune—someone who enjoys it far too much.

With time running out before another shining star turns up in a body bag, Booker chases an invisible executor, grasping at any shred of evidence to find the young beauty.

For Alisa. For the grieving family. For every girl plucked off the street never to be heard from again. It has to stop. Today. In Dallas. Booker will either succeed or die trying. And so will countless others.

My thoughts:

Mr. Mefford has done it again! I literally couldn't put this book down. I've been following Booker's career since he first left DPD, and this book was the first that was so emotionally charged that it left me shaky.

Alisa's sister Natalie is a party girl who has pushed her family away, but when she goes missing both Alisa and Booker do everything they can to find her. Then one of her friends is found dead in a horrific manner and panic begins to set in.

Will Booker and Alisa be able to find Natalie before her lifeless body is found?

This book is graphic, emotional, intense, horrific, and one of the best books I've read in a long time. You'll gasp, cry and cheer all within a couple of pages.

Booker: Blood Ring can definitely be read alone, but if you're new to the series you'll definitely enjoy the older books also. So grab them all and snuggle in for a great ride!

Booker: Streets of Mayhem (Booker #1)
On a cool October afternoon, the majestic blue sky above Dallas is polluted with swells of gray smoke, carrying shattered memories of fifteen people, mostly children, who've just been killed by an explosion on a bus.

A white supremacist group claims responsibility, opening old wounds, turning neighbor against neighbor--fracturing the community. A Southeast Dallas native, Booker T. Adams couldn't be more invested in the city…in the people he'd served for the last seven years as a beat cop for the Dallas Police Department. Without warning, it becomes personal for Booker on so many levels. And as panic grips the city, he must decide how much he's willing to sacrifice to end the chaos.

With his career called into question and his family in the crosshairs of one terrorist act after another, Booker invests every fiber of his being to protect a broken community, and to stop the brutal, senseless slayings.

If he fails, terrorism will reign in the city of Dallas.

Booker: Tap That (Booker #2)
A performance for the ages.

Courtney Johnson brings the house down in the heart of the vibrant Dallas Arts District. Later, shrills pierce the hallways of Wyle Theater when Courtney, a budding Broadway musical star, is found dead, a single bullet to the head.

Driven to find the killer before panic tears apart the arts community and all those who support it, private investigator Booker T. Adams discovers evidence of a professional hit, then uncovers a lovers ' triangle that takes him all the way to the mean streets of Boston.

And then it happens again. Another performer killed, someone Booker had met. Rocked by the shocking murders, performers and patrons alike fear that a serial killer is on the loose, and no one knows when and or where another dead body will show up.

But professional obligations quickly morph into personal vendettas. Running against an unforgiving clock, Booker is forced to solicit the help of a crime boss, The Shark.

With his life threatened at almost every turn, and his heart being put through a meat grinder, Booker taps into every resource at his disposal to stop more than just a killer.

But at what price?

Full of unforgettable characters, bone-chilling suspense and stunning thrills, BOOKER - Tap That is a wild ride that will test even the most fervent reader's quest for a luminous reading experience.

Booker: Hate City (Booker #3)
After a life filled with destruction of others and himself, and his body ravaged by disease, there's only one thing left for Javier Calero to do. Leave a legacy that will finally bring meaning to his life—and to the death of an American president more than fifty years ago.

The CEO of a green energy company is murdered behind his million-dollar estate, his neck nearly severed in two. Recruited to aid the widow and find a savage killer, Booker finds himself in the middle of a family train wreck.

Days later, thrust into the crossfire of a deadly sniper, Booker eludes sure death with the uncanny arrival of a young woman who only wants to save her father from harm. But she can't do it without Booker's help.

Joining forces with a Latin spitfire, Booker and his new sidekick, Maggie, embark on a twenty-four-hour quest to hunt down a killer determined to make an indelible mark on history—just like the one that struck down John F. Kennedy a half-century earlier, which launched a cascade of assassination investigations and theories.

BOOKER - Hate City weaves a historic tale of thrills and suspense, examining the justifications of the unjustifiable.

Kidnapped in Paradise Book Review and Giveaway

In the Florida Keys, trouble is brewing along with the coffee. Friends Madison Westin and Fabiana Merceau search for the mastermind behind gruesome warnings showing up on their doorstep. Fab’s infamous new partner and Madison’s reappearing ex-husband complicate matters in this sexy and humorous action-adventure, the seventh installment of the Paradise series.

Can they slip the bonds of protective custody and solve the mystery before they are Kidnapped in Paradise?

Kidnapped in Paradise, is the seventh novel in Deborah Brown's Paradise series, which can be also read as a stand alone book.

My thoughts:

I absolutely love the Paradise series, and Kidnapped in Paradise definitely didn't disappoint! Madison and Fab are at it again, and as always they can't stay out of trouble.

In this book we were re-introduced to Madison's ex husband Jax (even though I'd be happy to not meet him again), and we spent a great deal more time with some of the peripheral characters. We saw a lot more of Phil and Spoon, and I like them so much better for the extra time that Mrs. Brown spent with them!

I think it's hilarious that Fab decided that a lighthouse was the perfect office and had one delivered! This is so crazily Fab that no one else could pull it off.

This time around Madison and Fab get dragged into a mystery because part of a dead body is left on their doorstep, and they have no choice but to try to figure out why (much to the chagrin of the men in their lives!)

If you haven't read any of the Paradise series before I strongly recommend you try it. You'll definitely want to go back and read the rest of them!

Available to buy from.....

"I loved it. Couldn't stop reading; real page turner! Would highly recommend. Can't wait for the next book in the series!"

"Deborah Brown has done it again. The whole crew of South Florida lunatics are flying in every direction in this, the seventh book of the Paradise series."

"I love the characters with their attitudes and personalities not always agreeing it is a great read!I hope there is more to come can't wait to see what these two cook up next! Definitely two thumbs up Deborah Brown!"

About the Author
I've been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer... and then run out and tell their friends about it.

My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.
