My thoughts:

Grace is crazy busy with her career in New York, and she has spent her life running from her small hometown and the memories in it, but she is convinced to take a break to spend time with family and teach a screenwriting class in her hometown.

Reed has come home after years of nursing a broken heart, and is shocked to find Grace standing in front of him after all these years. They quickly fall back into old routines, but their relationship was so broken that it may never be able to be repaired. They only have a few weeks together, so they agree to make the best of it and not worry about the future.

But with Reed's life and future in Oak Falls and Grace's in New York, can they make things last beyond these short weeks?

This is a wonderful story that encompasses not only Reed and Grace's love, but small town life (and big family life too!) It was such an enjoyable addition to the series, and I can't wait to read more!

My thoughts:

I absolutely loved Mr. Mefford's Redemption series, and I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about starting a new series, with new characters. Mr. Mefford makes his characters so real that you feel like they're your friends (or your enemies). So my heart wasn't quite ready for a new series, with all new characters.

However, Mr. Mefford did not disappoint! This book jumped straight in, not allowing you any time to stop and think. Before you know it the main characters have crossed paths (after decades apart), and the mystery has begun.

So far I really enjoy these characters, and I love getting to know the people around them. There's lots of suspense, quite a bit of humor, and enough texture to make the story interesting. I can't wait to read the next one in the series!


If you're a fan of Michael Connelly's Ballard and Bosch, David Baldacci's King and Maxwell, Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli and Isles, and the TV show "Castle," then you'll be sucked into this first, page-turning Ball & Chain thriller.
