Whole Latte Love Book Review and Tour

Investment banking intern Carina Chen doesn’t need any distractions—especially the sexy, guitar-playing barista she rooms with for the summer.

Free spirit Dylan Jewell appreciates the delightful universe of women who vie for his attention. His goal in life is to do good, make happy coffee, and help the homeless.

When Carina moves in, she insists on rules of conduct to quell her instant attraction to Dylan. But when her boss asks her to turn Dylan into a businessman, she can’t think of a reason not to take advantage of his hospitality.

Their chemistry is white hot, but Dylan refuses to play Carina’s game, unable to understand how he can fall in love with a woman who puts profits in front of people. When Carina realizes Dylan isn’t budging, she risks all to gain a single night with him. Will her gambit backfire or will Dylan discover Carina’s true heart before she runs away with his?

Set in Berkeley, California, Whole Latte Love is an opposites-attract romance mixing bluesy rock music, hot, steamy love scenes, and financial shenanigans.

Steamy love scenes and language. Suitable for readers 18+.

My thoughts:

This book is a steamy example of what a great romance can be! I have to admit, at multiple times I was annoyed at both main characters and the way they were sabatoging each other and their relationship. Their game playing got a bit out of hand.

But watching them open up and grow was so much fun! Carina really started out as a very traditional Asian daughter, but grew to make her own choices and control her life. Dylan comes across as your typical barista/musician, but grows into someone who everyone can be proud of.

Definitely a great read, and a neat look at the different sides of Berkeley!

Chasing Charlie Book Review and Giveaway

Raised in a family of rodeo champions on a South Texas cattle ranch, Charlie wants only one thing: to avoid thrill-seeking cowboys.

Davis Murphy, cowboy wannabe and one of Dallas's most eligible bachelors, needs a pretty and witty faux fiancée so his widowed mother will marry her longtime gentleman friend.

Charlie, his local librarian, seems the prefect choice.

Charlie's first reaction is to run, but she's promised herself to step out of her plain-jane routine.

When Charlie accepts, Davis's plan is set. But now Charlie's sweet ways are challenging his bachelor heart.

“Heartwarming, fast paced, laugh out loud fun.” ~ Susan Fox, Best-selling author

“Chasing Charlie will chase away the blues with a red dress, a real love, and a whole lot of fun!” ~ Christie Ridgway, Best-selling author

“Funny, sweet, poignant…best feel-good book I’ve read all year.” ~ Trish Jensen, USA TODAY Best-selling author

"A once innocent plan becomes an entangled romance . Funny and sweet. A most entertaining combination." ~ Carol Bozovich, Rendevzous Magazine

My thoughts:

This book is a wonderfully light, quick, and satisfying read. Charlie is a sweet librarian who is stuck in a rut and trying to spice up her life (but only a little). Davis has his heart and mind set on being a cowboy instead of a successful businessman, but first he wants to see his mom happily married to the man of her dreams. But she won't marry until Davis is settled.

When Davis approaches Charlie to be his fake fiancé for one night, the ball starts rolling, and hilarity (and romance) ensues. But can they work out their differences?

This is a perfect summer read, light, fresh and fun. I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Yefon: The Red Necklace Book Review and Giveaway

A powerful, emotional tale of ambition and courage by Cameroonian-born Sahndra Fon Dufe, the Common Wealth of Nations recognized author of 'Dear momma'. (2004)

Yefon: The RedNecklace (YRN) is the first book of the YEFON trilogy series. It will have you wrapped up with emotions you didn’t know you had!

Young tribal girl, Yefon Labam, knows she’s different.

During the 1950's, in her Central African village, women are uneducated and are expected to either work on a farm or be one of many wives, but Yefon dares for more—she wants to learn how to read, even if looking at a book could mean her death.  Although everyone thinks she’s an abomination, including her mother and sisters, her father knows she’s destined for greater things.

When he is murdered, Yefon clings to the gift he gave her for inspiration—a red necklace. She soon comes to realize that the necklace is no ordinary ornament, but a talisman crafted by the spirits. Yefon walks a dangerous path that could lead to her freedom…or her death.

THE TRILOGY BEGINS....

5% from the sales of EACH copy of YEFON hardcover novel is going to one of the following charities: LOURDES COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS
BUI SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS ( MamaVerla Project)
WORLD LITERARY CRUSCADE
TERRERAI TRENT's TINOGONA FOUNDATION (http://www.tinogona.org/)

My thoughts:

This book is a wonderful way to introduce you to daily life in Cameroon! I loved reading about how the families interacted, how the planting was handled, and all the minutiae that fleshed out the story and made it real to me. Sahndra Fon Dufe has an excellent way of storytelling, showing you positives and negatives about each character and making you love them.

Yefon's story is both the same and different from other girls her age, as she struggles against society's plans for her and what she wants to do with her life.

The main downside for me is the ending. I know it's part of a trilogy but the abruptness of the ending threw me off (although it's making me wait for the next book, so I guess that works!)

Last Letter Book Review and Giveaway

A Father’s Deceit
A Husband’s Betrayal
A Loved One’s Death
A Mother’s Choice
A Daughter’s Resentment
A Time to Forgive

For every daughter who thinks she knows her mother’s story…

Katherine wouldn’t have believed it if she hadn’t found the last letter…

Katherine Arthur’s dying mother arrives on her doorstep, forcing her to relive a past she wanted to forget. When Katherine was young, the Arthur family had been affluent city dwellers until shame sent them running for the prairie, into the unknown. Taking her family, including young Katherine, to live off the land was the last thing Jeanie Arthur had wanted, but she would do her best to make a go of it. For Jeanie’s husband Frank it had been a world of opportunity. Dreaming, lazy Frank. But, it was a society of uncertainty — a domain of natural disasters, temptation, hatred, even death.

Ten-year-old Katherine had loved her mother fiercely, put her trust in her completely, but when there was no other choice, and Jeanie resorted to extreme measures on the prairie to save her family, she tore Katherine’s world apart. Now, seventeen years later, Katherine has found the truth — she has discovered the last letter. After years of anger, can Katherine find it in her heart to understand why her mother made the decisions that changed them all? Can she forgive and finally begin to heal before it’s too late?

My thoughts:

This book is one of my new favorites! First off, it reminds me so much of Little House on the Prairie (which was a favorite of mine in my youth), but it's from the mom's perspective and the mom does NOT want to be there. She's struggling to keep her family alive and sane on the prairie, with all of the horrific problems that come with it. It's definitely a new perspective on stories that I've read before!

This book is split up into two stories, the past (on the prairie, when Katherine was young), and Katherine's present (when her mom is dying in her guest room). It bounces between the two stories, giving you hints of why Katherine felt so betrayed and why Jeanie made the choices that she did.

It's an emotional read that says so much about families, especially families in extreme circumstances. If you have any interest in this story go buy it now! You won't be sorry. I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
