Her Last Words Book Review

The glow from the fireplace throws an eerie light over the woman’s carefully arranged body, her lifeless eyes reflecting the flames that slowly burn the evidence of who did this to her…

When Detective Amanda Steele is called to the brutal murder scene of successful local author Felicity Kelley, her blood runs cold. Because Amanda not only knew the victim, but was the last person Felicity called moments before she was murdered. Plagued with guilt that she never answered, Amanda is left wondering whether she could have prevented the murder, and vows to catch the killer, no matter what.

Desperately searching the crime scene for clues, Amanda is shocked when she discovers a Queen of Hearts playing card, suggesting the murder could be an imitation of a scene from Felicity’s bestselling crime novel. Terrified that she is dealing with a crazed fan who could strike again, Amanda’s worst fears are confirmed when another innocent woman is viciously murdered, with the same chilling calling card left behind.

But when Amanda connects the murders with a cold case from fifteen years ago, a case that Felicity appears to have been researching for her next novel, she is forced to question if the killer’s motive is even more sinister than she first suspected. But the closer Amanda gets to unearthing this motive, the closer she gets to becoming the next victim…

A completely pulse-pounding and unputdownable crime thriller, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

My thoughts:

Carolyn Arnold has done it again! This is a fast paced, thrilling murder mystery that shows a softer side of Amanda, since she knew and liked the victim. However, what initially seemed to be an easy to solve case quickly was chock full of motives, with twists and turns to keep Amanda on edge right until the very end.

Can she solve the murder and find the killer before she becomes his next victim?

I absolutely loved continuing with Amanda's story and watching her life and work progress as time goes on. This book can completely be read as a standalone, but you will get sucked in and want to read them all!

Wedding Bells Brew Murder Review

 Page 1

With all the guests at Sara and Sean's wedding suspected of murder, her walk down the aisle will need to wait...
Everything is going perfectly on the big day until Sara opens the door of her bridal suite. Darlene Day, who made the wedding cake, falls into the room, a serving knife plunged into her back.
As the organists start to play "Here Comes the Bride," Sara calls a pause to the proceedings. There's a murder to solve, and the motive may be in the icing.
Darlene wasn't the most loved person in the small town of Cotton Spring Falls, but rumor has it that she refused the offer of a big franchise to buy her bakery. Did they go so far as murder to put her out of business?
But when it's discovered their wedding cake was poisoned, Sara and Sean could have been the intended victims all along. Did Darlene stumble upon the killer's conspiracy and they silenced her before she could reveal their secret? Is it someone on the invitation list or the mysterious wedding crasher?
As long as the coffee is hot, and Sara has Sean and her beagle, Magnum, at her side, she isn't going down in a heap of tulle and lace.
Wedding Bells Brew Murder is a closed-room mystery in the fashion of the great Agatha Christie that fans of Emma Davies, Verity Bright, and Helena Dixon will enjoy reading.

My thoughts:

This is such a fun book, with lots of fast paced action and multiple suspects. Since the murder happened at a wedding with security it's definitely got vibes of a closed room mystery. And the police feel the same, as they kept everyone onsite for hours to try to solve the crime.

I love the connection between Sara and Sean (and Magnum of course), and very much enjoyed their crime solving and their personal lives. They're a great couple who have had a tremendous change in their lies, and I can't wait for more of their story! In fact I enjoyed it so much that I went and read the first book in the series to get more of their history.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone wanting a light, amusing murder mystery (and definitely recommend going back for the first book also!)

Taken Girls Book Review

Music from the busy dancefloor echoes into the deserted room where the Prom Queen lies deadly still. A tiara rests on her soft blonde curls, but her face is frozen with fear, and her painted red lips are forever sealed shut in a silenced scream…

When
Detective Amanda Steele’s niece, Ava, begs her to look for a missing schoolfriend, she immediately agrees to take on the case. Eighteen-year-old Reese left home three nights ago after fighting with her mother and hasn’t been seen since. But when the teenager’s body is discovered brutally murdered, poised dramatically at the prom venue, Amanda is devastated she didn’t save the girl in time.

Haunted by the scene, Amanda dives headfirst into the case. Chasing every lead, she is horrified when she discovers a potential key witness strangled in her own home. It soon becomes clear that the killer will stop at nothing to silence anyone who might reveal their identity. So when Ava mentions she saw someone acting strangely at the prom venue that night, Amanda’s heart stops.

And when Amanda’s worst nightmare comes true, and her beloved niece is taken, she knows that every second counts to uncover this twisted killer’s identity and bring Ava home safely
. But can she crack the secrets of this killer’s deadly game before it’s too late?

A completely pulse-pounding and unputdownable crime thriller, perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

My thoughts:

This book will take you on a ride! Amanda's niece comes to her for help because a friend is missing, and Amanda is thrust into an investigation trying to save a life. As she skirts the line of her permission to investigate the missing persons case (since she's homicide), she soon discovers that things are much worse than she thought.

As the case gets way too close to home, Amanda's investigation is fraught with twists and turns, which kept me guessing until the very end of the book.

This is a truly outstanding story, one that you will keep you up all night trying to finish!

Her Dark Grave Book Review

Her Dark Grave: A completely gripping bone-chilling crime thriller (Detective Madison Knight Series Book 12) by [Carolyn Arnold]
Detective Madison Knight thought a midnight drive through the countryside would help clear her mind, but she thought wrong. Her car runs out of gas, stranding her in the middle of nowhere in pitch darkness. When she gets out to stretch her legs, the beam of her phone’s flashlight lands on a suitcase in the ditch. After she opens it, she’s sorry she did.

Tara Jackson was only twenty-one years old with her entire life ahead of her before she was stabbed to death and stuffed into a piece of luggage. Madison is determined to find her justice and soon uncovers that Tara was keeping secrets from those closest to her and suspects they may have gotten her killed. But while she’s exploring that lead, the body of another young woman is found in a sports equipment bag.

She looks just like Tara and is the same age, and Madison starts to wonder if the killer she’s after has killed before. Desperate, she turns to cold cases and missing person reports to see if she can dig up anything to further the investigation.

Madison finds eighteen-year-old Daphne Tucker, who was
reported missing from the area three years ago. She’s a doppelganger to the other victims. Is the reason Daphne hasn’t been heard from because she’s dead too? And has her killer returned, hungry for more blood?

As Madison edges closer to the truth,
someone is stalking her from the shadows, and she fears it just may be the twisted, demented killer she’s hunting. But can Madison outsmart him or her before she becomes the next victim?

This completely gripping bone-chilling crime thriller is perfect for fans of Lisa Regan, D.K. Hood, and Leslie Wolfe.

My thoughts:

Carolyn Arnold grabbed me from the beginning and I could not put this book down! Madison has a whole host of problems of her own, hence why she's driving around in the middle of the night and finding a body. As she and her partner try to solve Tara Jackson's case and look closely at her social circle, another body pops up, leading them to believe that they're dealing with a serial killer.

Can they catch him before he kills again? And can Madison work through her personal problems to be happy with her life?
